Come to think of it, although nanocellulose would likely be the best choice, cellulose that hasn't already been broken up might fine, too. In particular, I'm think simple blades of grass, which can be obtained in bulk by mowing your lawn, or you can use a wheat grass juicer or other food processor to remove much of the chlorophyll and use the pulp that is left over. Regardless of what you use, the chlorophyll is easy enough to remove by simply soaking the blades in water and draining the chlorophyll out through a strainer. By packing the water with grass blades, which are going in all directions, perhaps the Pykrete will be nearly as strong as it would be with nanocellulose gel or powder mixed in? And if you use de-chlorophyll-inized grass pulp, that might be one step closer to nanocellulose. Grass certainly is a fairly easy to find material for many people, so it might not be necessary to wait until nanocellulose is available to the public for purchase.
If pulp is used, I would also add the microspheres and Helix, if available. With whole blades of grass, both microspheres and Helix might be difficult to add.
