The Bare Minimum
It seems to me that the bare minimum needed for applying the principles of Zion outside of the family is two single people or a pair of couples or two families or any combination thereof. So, the combinations would be:
The Scenarios
Scenario 1
Let's tackle Scenario 1 first. Bill and Jack, two LDS single men, decide they want to form their own small United Effort. They both work for Babylon, Bill at a production shop and Jack as a retail salesman. By any account, neither is well off. They both live in apartments and attend the local Singles Ward.
They decide that their first objective is to reduce or eliminate all payments into the Babylonian system that they can, starting with the cheapest projects and progressing into the more expensive ones.
Listing the Needs
So, they make a list of all of their needs that Babylon is currently supplying: food, clothing, money, electricity, transportation, employment, etc. They realize that everything that they need is currently supplied by Babylon. So, they go through the list, one by one, and they analyze which needs can be supplied without Babylon's influence.
Neither can think of a way to supply their own clothes, so they cross off that need. Babylon, for now, will have to supply it. Neither one can enter into the employ of the other, neither has the capital nor the experience nor the means nor any good ideas about entering into their own personal busines, so they leave that aside, also. They will keep their own jobs, for now. Their apartments do not afford enough space to properly grow a garden, though they can have houseplants. They leave off providing their own food, for now. Etc.
A Multiple-Phase Plan
After going through the list, they realize that they cannot eliminate altogether Babylon's influence, but they can reduce it substantially. They decide that they will apply Magneto-Hydrodynamics and Sonic Bloom technology to both their households. Their plan is the following:
Phase One: Magneto-Hydrodynamics
Bill and Jack will pool their resources and surplusses until they have enough money to purchase a magnet distributorship of one of the many magnet companies out there. They both do the research and narrow it down to one company. From their savings or paychecks, they keep contributing to a fund until enough money is pooled to purchase the distributorship, which is then put into Bill's name. Technically now, Bill now has an additional source of income. He can sell biomagnets for health or magnets for other uses to anyone. Both Bill and Jack both actively promote Bill's business.
Meanwhile, they continue to pool their resources. Sometimes Bill makes a sale, either by his own work or by a referral from Jack. The profit of that sale goes into the fund. Because Bill buys at wholesale directly from the manufacturer, when he sells at retail, he makes a small profit. These profits go into the general fund, as surplusses.
When enough money is pooled, Bill purchases a Magnetic Engine Performance system for Jack's car. This system is not sold to Jack, but is bought at wholesale by Bill, paid for by their pooled resources, and given to Jack. Jack's car now gets improved gas mileage, lower emmissions and it runs smoother.
Jack makes it a point to show everyone his car's Magnetic Engine Performance system and sends everyone to Bill to get their own system. Bill makes it a point to use Jack as a reference when talking to others about the benefits of using magnets. Bill begins to make more retail sales, contributing more to the general fund.
As the funds pool, enough money is accumulated to enable Bill to purchase at wholesale a Magnetic Engine Performance system for his own car. Now both Bill and Jack are using their cars as demonstrations and Bill still uses Jack as a reference.
Because both Jack and Bill live in apartments, they decide it is too expensive to purchase magnets for the water pipes of their apartments. However, they both have more than enough money to purchase Negative Water Energizing magnets, making all the water they drink negatively magnetized and much more healthy. Again, both Bill and Jack send people to each other and use each other as testimonials of the effectiveness of magneto-hydrodynamics.
