The Robinson Self-Teaching Curriculum is the solution for the educational needs of Zion's children. Each child is home-schooled with superb material which may be added to as the parents see fit, or subtracted, as seen fit, but it contains everything needed for an exceptional education and an effective method to create true individual thinkers. As an added bonus, it is extremely cheap. Requirements are the Saxon math books, the 22 cd-roms of the Curriculum itself, a computer and a good printer. Then, all one needs is ink and paper. The cost is about $200 plus the cost of a good printer ($179) plus the cost of the nine Saxon math books (around $50 each) plus the cost of the paper and ink. Most everyone already has a computer, so the initial investment would be in a good quality printer and in the course itself. The Saxon math books can be purchased over time. The only real continual cost, then, once everything is obtained, is the ink and paper, which can be extremely inexpensive.
Now that there are cd-burners in computers, a person can amass a library of public domain documents with which to use in their own personal course and burn them to additional cd-roms for use in their printing press. With the Internet as it is currently organized, there are many resources that can be downloaded and printed out.
The RC requires about 15 minutes of parent time daily, after the initial first year of teaching the child to read, write and perform simple arithmatic. From the second year on, the RC is self-teaching, or autodidactic, meaning that the children teach themselves, learn themselves and correct themselves. The parents do basically nothing more except give them the daily assignment.
Any parent or matrimony can home school their kids in this way and since the course is increasingly more challenging, the education level of the parents is not a limiting factor. The RC is ideal for United Efforts.
